Today's installment of campaign-related news items that won't necessarily generate a post of their own, but may be of interest to political observers:

* With Rick Santorum leaving the campaign trail, the endorsement floodgates have opened for Mitt Romney, as the GOP establishment rallies behind its nominee.

* Though Santorum will probably endorse Romney eventually, a senior aide to Santorum said yesterday that the former senator has already had discussions about a 2016 presidential bid. In other words, Santorum probably expects Romney to lose.

* With Karl Rove's American Crossroads helping lead the charge against President Obama's re-election bid, the Obama campaign is seizing on Rove's unpopularity to motivate the Democratic base.

* Crossroads' new anti-Obama ad is part of a $1.7 million buy, and the spot will air in Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Nevada, Ohio, and Virginia.

* House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) hasn't ruled out joining Romney's ticket as the vice presidential nominee.

* In Colorado, generally considered a key swing state, Public Policy Polling shows Obama looking surprisingly strong, leading Romney by 13 points.

* FreedomWorks, which helped defeat former Utah Sen. Bob Bennett two years ago, has decided to largely give up in its efforts to derail Sen. Orrin Hatch's (R) re-election bid.

* And now that the race for the Republican nomination is effectively over, the Obama campaign is welcoming Romney to the general-election phase with a brutal video, recounting some of Romney's greatest hits from the last year.
