Wednesday's Mini-Report, 1.13.21

Today's edition of quick hits.

Today's edition of quick hits:

* Donald Trump issued a written statement today: "In light of reports of more demonstrations, I urge that there must be NO violence, NO lawbreaking and NO vandalism of any kind. That is not what I stand for, and it is not what America stands for. I call on ALL Americans to help ease tensions and calm tempers. Thank You."

* An important statement: "Amid worry about renewed violence on Inauguration Day, the military's top leaders issued a written reminder to all service members Tuesday that the deadly insurrection at the Capitol last week was an anti-democratic, criminal act, and that the right to free speech gives no one the right to commit violence."

* We should all have a long talk about this: "Former and current members of law enforcement agencies and the military appear to have participated in last week's chaos in Washington, alarming lawmakers on Capitol Hill and Americans nationwide as each day brings new video and information about the riot and the rioters."

* Flint: "Former Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder, his health director and other ex-officials have been told they're being charged after a new investigation of the Flint water scandal, which devastated the majority Black city with lead-contaminated water and was blamed for a deadly outbreak of Legionnaires' disease, The Associated Press has learned."

* Seems reasonable: "House Democrats are likely to implement a rule in the House of Representatives fining lawmakers $500 for not wearing face masks on the House floor during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a senior Democratic aide not authorized to speak publicly."

* Secretary of State Mike Pompeo scrapped a scheduled trip to Brussels reportedly because "European officials balked at seeing him after last week's deadly riot by Trump supporters at the U.S. Capitol."

* Speaking of Pompeo: "Al Qaeda's new base of operations is in Iran, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Tuesday, using his last days in office to tie together two of what he called the world's greatest terrorism threats but offering no underlying intelligence as evidence."

* SCOTUS: "The Supreme Court on Tuesday lifted a nationwide injunction that has prevented the Trump administration from enforcing a rule to regulate a pill commonly used in medication abortions, allowing the rule to be enforced."

* Seems reasonable: YouTube has taken action against President Donald Trump and barred new videos from being uploaded to his channel for at least seven days, citing violations of its policies and "concerns about the ongoing potential for violence."

* This seems reasonable, too: "Airbnb will cancel and block all reservations in the Washington metro area during inauguration week after finding Airbnb accounts for 'numerous individuals who are either associated with known hate groups or otherwise involved in the criminal activity at the Capitol Building,' the platform announced Wednesday morning."

See you tomorrow.
