Today's edition of quick hits:

* In Egypt, efforts to round up Muslim Brotherhood leaders are intensifying.

* Also in Egypt: "The streets seethe with protests and government ministers are on the run or in jail, but since the military ousted President Mohamed Morsi, life has somehow gotten better for many people across Egypt: Gas lines have disappeared, power cuts have stopped and the police have returned to the street."

* Good news out of Arizona: "A vicious blaze that claimed the lives of 19 firefighters and scorched thousands of acres of Arizona wild land has been 100 percent contained, officials said late Wednesday. The Yarnell Hill fire sparked June 28, when lightning struck dry brush."

* Jerry Falwell's Liberty University loses again: "A U.S. appeals court on Thursday rejected a Christian university's challenge to President Barack Obama's 2010 healthcare overhaul, which the school said unconstitutionally imposes costly burdens on large employers and infringes religious liberty."

* Bernanke rules their world: "Stocks soared on Thursday, with both the Dow and S&P 500 closing at record highs, driven by investor relief that the Federal Reserve would keep its foot on the stimulus gas pedal for some time."

* It remains to be seen whether the Democratic mainstream will go for this: "Bipartisan Senate negotiators reached a tentative agreement on Thursday on an overhaul of the federal student loan program after Democrats retreated on their position that subsidized loan rates be locked in for at least another year."

* House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is saving the immigration reform hardball for later. I suppose it's something to look forward to.

* When House Republicans aren't complaining about light bulbs, they're complaining about ceiling fans. Sigh.

* Dana Milbank picks up on the "sabotage governing" problem in the GOP: "On health care, as on immigration, their approach amounts to a search-and-destroy mission. They could work with Democrats to remove problematic pieces in the health-care law, and they could compromise with Democrats on legislation that would secure the borders. But instead they are devoted to shutting down both."

* I genuinely love reading Jon Chait trying to explain the basics of lawmaking to prominent conservatives who should probably know better, but don't.

* Quite possibly my favorite congressional tweet ever.
