Last night on the show, Wired's Danger Room reporter Spencer Ackerman shared with us his scoop about FBI counterterrorism training material that tells agents to think of Islam as a religion of violence. From his report:
At the Bureau’s training ground in Quantico, Virginia, agents are shown a chart contending that the more “devout” a Muslim, the more likely he is to be “violent.” Those destructive tendencies cannot be reversed, an FBI instructional presentation adds: “Any war against non-believers is justified” under Muslim law; a “moderating process cannot happen if the Koran continues to be regarded as the unalterable word of Allah.”
I just want to add that any number of Christians in this country believe that the Bible is the unalterable word of God, even the violent parts, and they do things like run for elected office. We may vote for them or against them, but we don't usually consider them as terrorists-in-waiting. Spencer reports that the FBI has retired some of the material, and that agents could opt out of the briefings. Which isn't much comfort, not really.
