Just when I was wondering what Christine O'Donnell would do about the debt ceiling, she sent me this nice letter along with an ad for her new book. Full text:

Dear Laura,Many people have been asking me if I were in Congress, would I vote to raise the debt ceiling? So I figured I'd jot down some quick informal thoughts on this issue and share them with you.

No, I would not vote to raise the debt ceiling.

Continuing to raise the debt ceiling will only undermine the status of our country as a whole by the weakening of the US dollar.   And the US dollar's status is not just important to maintain our status as the “big man on campus,” so that we set trends for the rest of the world to follow. The consequences of the US dollar losing its status with the rest of the world include:

-        OPEC raising the cost of oil and therefore the cost of gas at the pump and higher costs for goods sold to us by the rest of the world.

-        US employers being be hit especially hard with this reality. Just this week, Good Morning America reported that 64% of small businesses are not hiring in the next year and 12% are cutting.

In fact, it's time for the government to cut up its credit cards! They say the first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem. And the US government sure does seem to have a spending problem.

Liberals in Washington are of the opinion that we can continue to spend our way out of the current economic crisis. However, they and our short-sighted President must understand that the money tree they continue to harvest is not their own.

This is the problem with establishment politicians: they sit on Capitol Hill and legislate in their best interests, completely out of touch with Americans and the practicalities we face.

In order to raise the debt ceiling, which liberals claim will cure what ails us, taxes must be raised- more money straight out of our pockets at a time when our economy is already on life support.

What is it about politicians that make them feel entitled to our hard-earned cash in order to solve problems caused by their own misjudgments?

President Obama may actually have said it best, who as senator in 2006 declared "Leadership means 'the buck stops here.' Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better. " (USA Today http://usat.ly/eqnxXx )

Couldn't have said it better, Mr. President! This pattern, this cycle of spending more than we can afford, will not end until we make the tough decision to "cut up" the government's credit cards. We should never forget that ours is a "government of the people, by the people, for the people." And we should do our best to preserve it as such.

It is now up to us Constitutionalists to stand up to the free-spending liberals who would like to raise the debt ceiling yet again. These budget talks are yet another small battle in the larger fight to hold on to our nation as our own.

In my book, I write at length about how We The People are the change necessary to make our country great again. This is one of those times. Encourage those in Congress who are standing up for what is right and good for our country! Call them and let them know they have your support.

We can pontificate all day long about economics and budget talks and our desire for the Conservatives in Congress to stand firm, but it is imperative for us to be supportive and gear up those who are making wise but difficult decisions.   Thank you so much for your continued support and may God bless you,

Christine O'Donnell
