Sometimes the blur is cool!

It took a little longer than I anticipated to dig out from under the avalanche of fireworks photos you all submitted but I'm glad I did. If you live in a part of the country that couldn't have fireworks due to drought this year, after the jump are enough colorful bursts to have a show of your own (and maybe crash your browser).

McNair Field, Fort Sill, Lawton, Oklahoma -- USA50 Gun Salute Ceremony for the 50 States and recognition of Territories and Possessions,July 4th, 2011 -- We did not have any fireworks shows in Oklahoma this year. We are currently in a major drought not seen in 100 years and in a complete Burn Ban. But we did have ESPLOSIONS. I would be honoured if you used this picture on your broadcast. The cannon is named for Lt. Henry of Vian, Oklahoma, Medal of Honour recipient in 1951. According to Wikipedia: Frederick F. Henry (died September 1, 1950) was a United States Army soldier and a recipient of the United States military's highest decoration, the Medal of Honor, for his actions in the Korean War.

We arrived late and were funneled into an area with restricted views of the fireworks, so I turned my camera towards the crowd, which turned out to be much more interesting!

Fireworks viewed from the Michigan Ave. bridge, Chicago. - It was late and my 9-year-old son and I were exhausted - we'd just spent almost 3 hours watching Chicago get obliterated by all sorts of mechanical beasties (he loved it!). Working on getting home to the Northwest side by public transportation (guaranteed at least an hour more before bedtime), my son grabbed my hand and said, \"Come with me... I have an idea...\", and dragged me to the center of the Michigan Avenue bridge. \"Okay. This is a nice view. What - \" That's when the first fireworks went off. We were alone on the bridge for quite a while before tourists and passers-by noticed, the traffic was probably a little too loud. \"I'll always remember this night, Mom...\" Yep. So will I.
Fireworks over Bethlehem, PA. - I used the fireworks scene mode on my camera, but didn't use a tripod. Long exposures + shaky hands made for some interesting effects in the final pictures.
