We wrestled last week with the possible explanation for the photo above. AP had sent this for a caption: "Republican presidential candidate, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, pinches the nose of Bonnie Ellison, 78, of Easley, S.C. while shaking hands with supporters at Mutt’s Barbeque in Easley, S.C. Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2012."

Now Rachel sends over this from the Independent Mail of Anderson, South Carolina, where they saw your proposals. Ahem:

“She asked me to touch her nose to see how cold it was,” Gingrich told Independent Mail videographer Ken Ruinard on Saturday when he was in Anderson campaigning. Gingrich and his wife, Callista, were at the Chik-fil-A restaurant on Clemson Boulevard before the state's polls closed.“It was kind of an unusual moment, wasn't it?” Callista Gingrich said, smiling.

Ms. Ellison tells the paper she had decided to vote for Mr. Gingrich before he squeezed her nose. "I thought it was right cute," her husband, J.M. Ellison said of the picture.
