Today's installment of campaign-related news items from across the country.

* We're still waiting for the results in several key Democratic primaries yesterday, but as things stand, it looks like House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Eliot Engel is trailing Jamaal Bowman, a middle-school principal making his first bid for elected office.

* The latest New York Times/Siena College poll, released this morning, found Joe Biden with a surprisingly large lead over Donald Trump, 50% to 36%. Among the president's many troubles: the national survey found him trailing by 21 points among self-identified independent voters, and 22 points among women. Biden has a narrow lead among voters 65 and older -- a constituency that backed the Republican ticket by an eight-point margin four years ago.

* Former President Barack Obama participated in a virtual fundraiser for Biden last night, according to an Axios report, the gathering brought in $7.6 million from over 175,000 people. That would make it the former vice president's best fundraiser to date.

* On a related note, former President George W. Bush will appear in a virtual fundraiser next week for four vulnerable Republican senators: Sens. Susan Collins (Maine), Cory Gardner (Colo.), Martha McSally (Ariz.), and Thom Tillis (N.C.).

* The Lincoln Project, a super PAC led by a group of anti-Trump Republicans, has vowed to go after the president's "enablers" in Congress, and to that end, the Lincoln Project will endorse Montana Gov. Steve Bullock (D) today. The governor is taking on incumbent Sen. Steve Daines (R) in one of this year's most closely watched U.S. Senate races.

* Deputy White House Press Secretary Hogan Gidley, who's offered some rather extraordinary defenses of the president in recent years, is headed to Trump's re-election team, where Gidley will reportedly fill the vacancy left by Kayleigh McEnany, who made the transition from the campaign to the West Wing in April.

* The Biden campaign is reportedly imposing "severe" restrictions on staffers' contacts with foreign officials. Imagine if Team Trump had done the same thing four years ago.
