Hey we have a new Poet Laureate

Every year, the librarian of Congress* selects a poet laureate to serve a one-year term. Today we learned that the 2011-12 term will be served by Philip Levine, who has apparently already won every other honor possible, so I don't imagine this appointment is very surprising to people in the poetry community. The good news is that his work is abundantly available online.

Here he reads the title poem of his National Book Award winning What Work Is.

The Atlantic appears to have a long relationship with him and offers a few suggestions and other background material.*Yeah, that's a good bit of bar trivia. It's James Billington.(Funniest thing about this new poet laureate is the Google Image results that include the guy with whom he shares a name.)
