I went looking today for YouTube clips from the ill-named hunting lease used by Texas Governor Rick Perry's family in Throckmorton County. If you've got any, please holler. Meanwhile, a taste of life in the small county seat:
Throckmorton, Texas, celebrated its Sequicentennial on October 4, 2008. One of the key events of the day was the Homecoming Parade. Floats were entered into the parade by the Ash family, the cheerleaders, the elementary school kids, the ranches, and many others. A good time was had by all.
As the Washington Post reports, Throckmorton County used to be a no-go zone for African-Americans. As of the 2010 Census, the population includes 11 black people, one of whom lives in the town itself.
