After our segment last night on the guy who's accused of trying to assassinate the president by firing at the White House with a semi-automatic assault weapon, Rachel emailed me to ask if we got the size of the ammo right. We'd described it as 39-millimeter, based on the arrest warrant, which details the ammo as 7.62 X 39 mm cartridges.

"Ah! That's it," Rachel replied. "I think we call those 7.62mm rounds, not 39mm rounds. For visualization's sake -- we're talking #23 in this pic (which is what we were trying to describe), instead of #73 in this pic, which is (roughly) what we actually did describe."

Either way, it's a monster round (or not -- see the comments below). CBS today posts a video that the suspect, Omar Ramiro Ortega-Hernandez, made at Idaho State in September. He describes himself as "the modern-day Jesus you've all been waiting for." The idea of him getting hold of the ammo police allege was found in his car is, let's say, unsettling.
