Backstage at the Emmy Awards (and completely out of our element)

This past Monday, The Rachel Maddow Show was awarded an Emmy for "Outstanding News Discussion and Analysis", for our shows from Afghanistan last year, entitled "Good Morning, Landlocked Central Asia". Keep in mind, we really never thought we were going to win, as we were alongside incredible nominees -- we were just excited to go to the ceremony! The video below depicts our journey from the TRMS offices, then during the longest (and loudest!) elevator ride EVER down to the stage after it was announced that we had won, and finally onstage to accept the award.

The audio is a bit wonky toward the end, but senior show producer Cory Gnazzo's speech was truly excellent. In addition to thanking Rachel, the rest of the staff and management here at NBC and msnbc, he also took time to thank our soldiers for their incredible strength and courage overseas, and for what they taught us during Rachel's assignment in Afghanistan.
