Animals reacting to the earthquake: Which one are you?

ADDING: Last night's dramatic re-enactment of the National Zoo's brilliant press release.

The National Zoo in Washington, D.C., sent out a really amazing, adorable press release cataloging the animals' reaction to yesterday's earthquake. A tiny taste, in the category of "Small Mammals":

  • The red ruffed lemurs sounded an alarm call about 15 minutes before the quake and then again just after it occurred.
  • The howler monkeys sounded an alarm call just after the earthquake.
  • The black-and-rufous giant elephant shrew hid in his habitat and refused to come out for afternoon feeding.

Me, I'm the black-and-rufous giant elephant shrew. Others among us at TRMS world headquarters confess to being Iris, the "belch vocalizing" orangutan,  the tufted deer who "appeared agitated" and ran from the barns, and the chicken, who isn't mentioned but isn't that just like what happens to chickens all the time.

Check out the full list of animals and their reactions. You know which one you are. No need to be ashamed.
