Sybrina Fulton, Trayvon Martin's mother, joined PoliticsNation Thursday with her lawyer Benjamin Crump to talk about how she is coping with her son's passing, and how she feels as the George Zimmerman trial is set to begin.
Zimmerman has been charged with killing her son; he has pleaded not guilty, saying he shot Martin in self-defense.
During the interview, she talked about trying to use her grief and turn it into something positive, creating the Trayvon Martin Memorial Foundation in his honor to help provide resources for other families who lose loved ones to gun violence.
"We want to help other families because we feel like there are voiceless families out there, they have some of the same situations that we have, and we kind of had direction, so we want to make sure we provide that direction to other families," she said. "We're going to provide a support system to those families because everybody won't have a Parks & Crump, everybody won't have 20,000 people at a rally, so we want to make sure we put things in place to help others."
Note: George Zimmerman has sued NBCUniversal for defamation, and the company has strongly denied his allegations.
