Rep. John Lewis: 'You cannot tell people they can't fall in love'

As the nation gears up for Pride Weekend just hours after a historic Supreme Court decision on same-sex marriage, a fiery speech from the House

The Supreme Court's Friday ruling that the U.S. Constitution requires states to license and recognize same-sex marriage is kicking off a weekend of Pride celebrations across the country. 

President Obama spoke on the ruling saying, ”Sometimes, there are days like this when that slow, steady effort is rewarded with justice that arrives like a thunderbolt.”

The court's decision punctuates a decades-long battle making marriage equality officially the law of the land. 

The sentiment behind the fight for today's ruling was perfectly articulated nearly 20 years ago by Rep. John Lewis (D- GA) in a speech against the Defense of Marriage Act back in 1996.
