He is sharpening his attacks against Newt Gingrich. Ahead of what should be a very lively debate tonight, the very, very rich Mitt Romney called the also pretty rich Newt Gingrich "a very wealthy man." In a CBS interview, Romney apparently doesn't want to be the only candidate who's loaded, saying "If you have a half a million dollar purchase from Tiffany's, you're not a middle class American."
Then he crossed midtown to the New York Times' office to call Gingrich "zany."<< ouch >>
The most stinging attack against Gingrich coming not from his rival, but from the editorial board of a conservative magazine. The National Review urging conservatives to use "good sense" and reject Gingrich. But the magazine didn't go as far as endorsing anyone else...
But he doesn't seem worried. He's not hitting back with negative ads of his own. In fact, he's not hitting back with any ads. Which begs us to repeat a question we've asked from the beginning: Is Newt Gingrich taking this seriously?? Good write-up from our friends at Politico.
