With one week to go, Newt Gingrich is out with his first email directly attacking rival Mitt Romney. Gingrich Communications Director Joe DeSantis writes in the email:

"Can we trust a Massachusetts Moderate to enact a conservative agenda? Our campaign might have plenty of things to say about that, but the best response certainly comes from Mitt Romney himself: 'I think people recognize that I am not a partisan Republican. That I'm someone who is moderate, and that my views are progressive.'"

That email came 48 hours the Gingrich Campaign took to Facebook to compare the Virginia ballot "unexpected setback" to Pearl Harbor. Remember, Newt's a historian. From campaign director Michael Krull on Gingrich's Facebook page:

“Newt and I agreed that the analogy is December 1941. We have experienced an unexpected set-back, but we will re-group and re-focus with increased determination, commitment and positive action. Throughout the next months there will be ups and downs; there will be successes and failures; there will be easy victories and difficult days - but in the end we will stand victorious.”

Is Newt's new negative turn a response to the mess in Virginia? Will the negativity bring back the momentum?? 7 Days to go...
