The President and CEO of the National Urban League Marc Morial issued a dire warning Wednesday on NOW with Alex Wagner, saying if the Supreme Court strikes down Sections 4 or 5 of the Voting Rights Act, it "would be tragic."
Morial told Alex Wagner, "The South, if it has changed, changed because of the Voting Rights Act, changed because of the Civil Rights Act. If you take the Voting Rights Act out of the equation...the South has an opportunity to revert back to the dark old days of its past."
His remarks came just after NBC News Justice Correspondent Pete Williams reported a controversial and provocative comment made by Justice Antonin Scalia, suggesting the renewal the Voting Rights Act "can be attributed to the perpetuation of racial entitlement."
