Reince Priebus is on a “listening session” trying to fix his party’s image problems. Yesterday, the Republican National Committee Chairman met with African-American party members in Brooklyn, New York.
Will the outreach work? Priebus spoke behind closed doors with a group of just 20 people. Before the meeting, he told reporters that he is there “with an open heart and an open mind and a serious drive.” But as BuzzFeed reports, it may take more than an open heart to erase the memory of former GOP nominee Mitt Romney.
Priebus chose a predominately black, low-income section of Brooklyn. Buzzfeed found that those in the neighborhood still feel that the chairman’s party is one that only cares about rich people.
There are no early indications if his listening will help the party with minorities at the polls. In November, President Obama won 93% of African Americans, 73% of Asians, and 71% of Latinos. We’ll discuss how Reince Priebus’ Brooklyn outreach went today at 12pm ET.
