Bloomberg gets serious on gun control as Congress takes spring break

Michael Bloomberg—the billionaire mayor of New York—is trying to keep the conversation alive on gun safety reform.

Michael Bloomberg—the billionaire mayor of New York—is trying to keep the conversation alive on gun safety reform. This weekend, Bloomberg and his advocacy group, Mayors Against Illegal Guns, announced a $12 million ad campaign in support of new federal gun control laws. The ads will air in 13 states the group believes are divided on the gun control issue.

But NRA Executive Vice President, Wayne LaPierre won’t have any of it. Appearing after the Mayor on NBC’s Meet the Press on Sunday, LaPierre called Bloomberg’s stance on guns “insane” and “reckless.”

Monday’s NOW with Alex Wagner panel discussed just how effective Bloomberg’s blitz could be and the divide between lawmakers and the American public on issues of gun control.
