Huma Abedin and the wifely role

On Wednesday's NOW with Alex Wagner, the panel chewed over the latest details in the Anthony Weiner saga and discussed the complex role being played by his wife, Huma Abedin."Maybe she just really loves the guy," The Washington Post's Eugene Robinson posited, baffled by Abedin's willingness to stand beside her husband despite the recent revelations."I think it's a little bit iffy to say 'oh, it's because she's blinded by love,' that she can't see his faults," Alex said. "I mean there was clearly some calculation here.""There's also ambition at play, because if I wanted to save my marriage and if I had just had a newborn, maybe running for the mayorship of one of the country's biggest metropolises is not necessarily the way you focus on your marriage!"The role of Abedin--a Hillary Clinton aide, who served as her Deputy Chief of Staff at the State Department--has been debated in several articles (here, here and here).The panel also had a little fun at the New York tabloids' expense.After Alex read from a scathing New York Daily News Op-Ed urging Weiner to withdraw from the race, Robinson accused the paper of concealing its true desires."That's somewhat disingenuous," Robinson joked. "No good tabloid editor would want this man out of the race. Every good tabloid editor would want this man in City Hall!
