Ahead of President Obama’s big speech on the economy this afternoon, before the president even began speaking, Republican House Speaker John Boehner of Ohio took a few moments on the House floor to denounce the speech.
"The White House says it's not expecting to say anything new…in this speech,” Boehner said. “The president himself said it isn't going to change any minds, so what exactly will change? What's the point? What's it going to accomplish?” Boehner’s answer: "Nothing. It's a hollow shell. It's an Easter egg with no candy in it."
Boehner’s comments are a likely foretelling of the future of the president’s economic agenda in Congress, where another government shutdown appears to be looming on October 1st.
