Wendell Pierce, the actor best known as Det. William "Bunk" Moreland in "The Wire" and Antoine Batiste in "Treme," was free on $1,000 bond Sunday after he was arrested on a simple battery charge in Atlanta, according to police and court records.
Pierce, 52, was arrested without incident early Saturday at the Atlanta Lowes Hotel, where he was a guest, Atlanta police Officer Donald T. Hannah said Sunday. Hannah said he could provide no further details, describing the arrest as routine and saying Pierce "made no indication he was famous, nor did the officer inquire."
Pierce most recently played Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas in the HBO docudrama "Confirmation." He has been in Atlanta shooting a new movie, "One Last Thing," about a Florida dentist who discovers he has an adult daughter living in Brooklyn, New York.
