When is it OK to use investigations for partisan gain? When Sen. John Cornyn does it

A Republican senator holding himself to one standard and Democrats to another? We know, shocking, right?

On PoliticsNation Monday, Rev. Al Sharpton caught Sen. John Cornyn of Texas in a classic example of the genre. Cornyn recently called on Attorney General Eric Holder over the bogus Fast and Furious "scandal," among other issues.

As Sharpton noted, that's quite a contrast with the approach Cornyn took back in 2007 on an actual Justice Department scandal, the U.S. attorney firings. "When the leader of the effort on the Judiciary Committee is the chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee Chuck Schumer, I think it undermines the apparent legitimacy of what is a legitimate inquiry."

And guess who the chair of the Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee is today. That's right ... John Cornyn.

As Sharpton added, Cornyn's "buddies over at the Republican National Committee are actually using the Fast and Furious issue to raise money."

Like we said, not exactly surprising to hear that a Republican senator is guilty of hypocrisy. But worth calling Cornyn on it just the same.
