Barack Obama Syria Speech 3 - 09/10/2013
President Barack Obama addresses the nation in a live televised speech from the East Room of the White House in Washington, Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013.

President Obama made a forceful case to the public--and through them, to Congress--on the need for the U.S. to take military action against Syria in response to Bashar al-Assad's use of chemical weapons.

He said that "resolutions and statements of condemnation are simply not enough" in the face of the horrifying August 21 chemical attack. But he also said he would ask Congress to delay voting on a resolution of military action, and he would work with the U.N. to find a way to induce President Assad to give up his chemical arsenal.
