We've been down this red carpet before.
Actress Uma Thurman recently turned heads on the red carpet, but not for what she was wearing. The Internet pounced on the 44-year-old actress’ seemingly changed appearance at the New York City premiere of the new TV miniseries "The Slap" on Monday, some calling her “unrecognizable” and speculating that she'd undergone drastic plastic surgery.
The star of Pulp Fiction – a movie released 20 years ago – ditched her bangs for a more slicked back hair-do, bright red lips and an all-black ensemble. Some media outlets zeroed in on her “minimal makeup,” citing it as the reason behind her changed appearance. Others speculated about plastic surgery and cosmetic treatments like Botox.
Thurman's camp has yet to address the reaction. But some social media users did not hesitate to chime in with their opinions.
Many people came to Thurman's defense. Most notably, Elizabeth Gilbert, author of "Eat, Pray, Love" implored the Twitterverse to "be kind."
Last year, fellow actress Renée Zellweger suffered similar scrutiny from the general public.
After days of enduring relentless media analysis for allegedly going under the knife, Zellweger spoke out to People magazine. "I’m glad folks think I look different! I’m living a different, happy, more fulfilling life, and I’m thrilled that perhaps it shows."
