Here's a Father's Day message Donald Trump's five children are unlikely to share with him this Sunday: "Donald Trump is a bully who has made it his job to demean and belittle women at every turn."
Still, that's the man-to-man conversation NARAL Pro-Choice America's group of male allies, Men for Choice, are going with in honor of the holiday. Their open letter takes up criticisms long made by Democrats and some Republicans of Trump and gives them a paternal cast.
"As fathers and men who have kids in our lives, we work hard to make sure the kids we love have strong values and that they treat others the way they would like to be treated—with compassion, dignity and respect. We want our kids to live in a world where men and women are truly equal and are treated as such," the letter reads, adding, "That’s why as Men for Choice, we won’t vote for Donald Trump this fall."
The over two dozen signatories include Sen. Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut and Rep. Keith Ellison of Minnesota, as well as U.S. Senate hopefuls and sitting Reps. Patrick Murphy of Florida and Chris Van Hollen. Former Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland, who is running for Senate in that state, also signed the letter. Democrats in key Senate races this fall are hoping to hang Trump's sexism, among other things, around the necks of their local opponents.
"When our leaders treat women as less than equal and enact policies that perpetuate gender inequality, that hurts all of us," they wrote. "As Men for Choice, we believe women should live in a world where they have the right to make their own decisions not only about health care, but their lives, without interference. We believe that women are full partners in society, and we support policies that will make our belief a reality in this society."
