Even 72 years after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Dec. 7, 1941 is still a day that lives in infamy. SpaghetiOs, the canned pasta and tomato sauce dish, took to Twitter late Friday to commemorate the anniversary of the attack with an illustration of its famous pasta shape.
The image, of a smiling, sneaker-clad pasta "O" holding aloft an American flag, provoked some mild outrage but mostly led to confusion. "Take a moment to remember #PearlHarbor with us," the tweet read.
Off-kilter tweets from brands are nothing new -- just ask Kenneth Cole. SpaghetiOs took the tweet down Saturday morning and apologized. "We meant to pay respect, not to offend," the company said on Twitter.
