One person was killed and five others were injured Wednesday after a series of shootings occurred in multiple locations in Mesa, Arizona, according to police. A suspect, said to be a man in his 40s, was taken into custody, NBC News reported.

The police and fire departments first received emergency calls at 8:40 a.m. local time of a possible shooter at the Tri City Inn on West Main Street in Mesa. There, a male victim died and two women were transported to the hospital with injuries, Mesa Police spokesman Esteban Flores said at a press conference.

Authorities then received a call about another shooting at a nearby restaurant, The Bistro, where a fourth person was shot and injured during a car-jacking incident. The restaurant is located just outside the campus of East Valley Institute of Technology. The victim there, who is a student, ran to the Tri City Inn for help from paramedics at the scene of the first shooting.

The suspect fled from the restaurant in a gray Honda Accord, Flores said. The suspect drove about two miles to an apartment complex, where he forced himself inside the building and shot a man. The victim is expected to survive, according to police.

Then reports came of another shooting victim at a different apartment complex in the area.

Flores said police believe the suspect acted alone. They have not yet identified a motive for the shootings but said an argument occurred originally at the Tri City Inn, the first shooting location.
