Remembering comedy legend 'Chespirito'

Legendary Mexican comedian Roberto Gomez Bolanos -- known as “Chespirito” -- died Friday in Cancun at age 85.

The comedian’s work was wildly popular, spanning dozens of countries and languages. He even inspired the iconic "Simpsons" character "Bumblebee Man."

Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto tweeted his condolences Friday, saying Chespirito’s work “transcended generations and borders.”

News of Chespirito’s death quickly spread on social media, where fans posted tributes to the late star. Telemundo reported that Chespirito was the No. 1 trend on both Facebook and Twitter Friday evening. Chespirito was the No. 2 trending term Friday in the U.S. on Google, with more than 500,000 searches.
