We are thrilled to announce in honor of Teacher Appreciation Week, Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers, will be answering questions exclusively from the msnbc community.

The American Federation of Teachers is the country’s second largest teachers union and a lightning rod for both criticism and praise. Weingarten has fought the expansion of charter schools at the expense of quality public education. She has generally supported the controversial Common Core standards adopted by the majority of the states, but has been an outspoken opponent of “standardized-testing fixation.”

Weingarten is an activist and leader who is as feisty as she is complicated. She has challenged so-called education reformers but has shown a willingness to engage with them.

What do you want to know about the current state of education in the United States?

Getting involved is easy. Simply leave your question for her in the msnbc community comment thread here.

Please remember to abide by the msnbc community rules.

We’ll publish her answers on Friday, May 9.
