One person was killed and multiple others were injured during a shooting and stabbing at the Colorado Motorcycle Expo in Denver, police said.

The incident happened just before 1 p.m. local time (3 p.m. ET) at the Denver Coliseum. Denver police did not say how many people were injured or describe the extent of their injuries.

Denver Health, which runs a large medical center in Denver, tweeted that paramedics had transported nine people to area hospitals.

No one is in custody yet, Denver police spokeswoman Raquel Lopez said. She would not say whether the violence was gang-related, calling it an "active ongoing investigation."

The motorcycle expo continued after the incident, with heavy security, Lopez added. Police officers were also at the hospitals where the injured had been sent.

The Denver Coliseum is an entertainment venue on the National Western Stockshow complex. The Colorado Motorcycle Expo is taking place there all weekend and bills itself on its website as "one of the largest motorcycle events in the country."
