The New York Daily News has struck again in the 2016 race, and this time the targets of their merciless headlines are GOP front-runner Donald Trump and his high-profile endorser, former Alaska governor Sarah Palin.
Their Wednesday cover story about the Palin endorsement comes with the headline: "I'm with stupid," over a photo of the real estate mogul and the self-proclaimed "Mama Grizzly." The cover also features the phrases "hate minds think alike" and "bird brains of a feather flock together." The NYC tabloid has made no secret of its disdain for The Donald; the paper has previously run a cover story that referred to him as a "clown" and portrayed him wearing an oversized red nose. Underneath the lead story, Wednesday's issue also takes note of domestic violence allegations against Palin's son Track:
In their lead story accompanying the cover of Palin and Trump, Daily News writers Adam Edelman and Leonard Greene called the event held on Tuesday "a 'Saturday Night Live' skit waiting to happen."
This provocative cover comes just a week after the big city paper went after Trump's closest competition, Sen. Ted Cruz, for criticizing what he's called "New York values." The Jan. 15 edition's cover featured an image of the Statue of Liberty giving Cruz the middle finger:
And the paper has been relentless in their criticism of the NRA's opposition to gun control reform:
Meanwhile, Trump is undaunted by the bad press around Palin, or of her somewhat rambling endorsement speech. During an appearance Wednesday on NBC's "TODAY" he said there would "certainly would be a role somewhere in the administration" for the 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee if he were elected this November. "I haven't discussed anything with her about what she'd do, but she's somebody I really like and I respect, and certainly she could play a position if she wanted to," Trump said.
