President Obama is dragging his feet on stopping violence in Syria because he thinks it will cost him votes come November, Sen. John McCain is charging.
The Arizona Republican and former presidential candidate ripped Obama’s foreign policy as “feckless” on Fox News Sunday. He called the country’s response to Syrian President Bashar Assad’s slaughtering of civilians a “shameful episode in American history.”
“Nearly 10,000 people have died. This is a brutal regime of incredible proportions,” he told host Chris Wallace. “This administration has a feckless foreign policy, which abandons American leadership.”
The harsh rhetoric comes as government forces in Syria killed more than 90 civilians on Friday.
In response, the White House said it is considering a plan that would give the U.S. the green light to provide arms to Arab nations and opposition forces to fight the Assad regime.
"The only conclusion you can draw is that this president wants to kick the can down the road on all these issues until after the election," McCain insisted.
“It’s really an abdication of everything that America stands for and believes in,” he said.
