Huma Abedin is sounding off on Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump over his radical plan to ban all Muslims from entering the United States.
The close Hillary Clinton aide wrote an email to supporters on Monday evening saying, “I’m a proud Muslim—but you don’t have to share my faith to share my disgust.”
In the email, which urges readers to join Clinton’s 2016 campaign, Abedin added, “Trump wants to literally write racism into our law books. His Islamaphobia doesn’t reflect our nation’s values...”
In the past, Trump has personally attacked Abedin and her husband, former congressman Anthony Weiner. In August, Trump alleged Abedin shared top-secret information with Weiner and described her husband – who resigned in 2011 after a sexting scandal—as a “sleazebag” and a “perv.” Trump also declared Abedin must be "desperately in love" with Weiner to stay with him.
Clinton has also weighed in on Trump’s call to prohibit Muslims from entering the country, which has spurred fierce criticism from both liberals and conservatives.
“This is reprehensible, prejudiced and divisive,” Clinton tweeted on Monday. “@RealDonaldTrump, you don’t get it. This makes us less safe.”
