Hillary Clinton: Benghazi committee 'a partisan arm of the RNC'

On the day one of her top aide testified before the committee, Clinton called it an arm of the Republican Party.

Hillary Clinton called the House Select Committee on Benghazi an arm of the Republican National Committee in a new interview with CNN Friday, the same day one of Clinton's top aides testified before the committee.

Clinton is scheduled to appear before the committee on Thursday, but her longtime aide Huma Abedin testified behind closed doors Friday. “I think it's pretty clear that -- whatever they might have thought they were doing -- that it ended up becoming a partisan arm of the Republican National Committee with an overwhelming focus on trying to, as they admitted, drive down my poll numbers,” she said.

The former secretary of state added that she has already testified before Congress on the September 11, 2012 attack on U.S. facilities in Libya. She said previous investigations have “rejected the conspiracy theories that are still floating out there in some circles" on the attacks.

“I will do my best to answer their questions,” she added to CNN's Jake Tapper. “But I don't really know what their objective is right now.”

The GOP-led committee’s credibility has been undermined in recent weeks after two Republican lawmakers suggested it was designed to go after Clinton.
