George Will to Donald Trump: You're a 'bloviating ignoramus'

George Will has a simple message for Donald Trump and his increasing role in Mitt Romney's presidential campaign:  You're a "bloviating ignoramus."

The Pulitzer Prize-winning Washington Post columnist ripped the billionaire real estate mogul on This Week Sunday, arguing Trump's embrace of Birtherism could hurt the presumed Republican presidential nominee.

"I do not understand the cost-benefit here," griped Will.

"The costs are clear. The benefit—what voter is going vote for [Romney] because he is seen with Donald Trump? The cost of appearing with this bloviating ignoramus is obvious, it seems to me."

Last year the Apprentice host flirted with the idea of running for president. Trump stepped into the national limelight—and initially rose in the polls—after declaring he had doubts that President Obama was born in the United States.

After Obama released his long-form birth certificate, support for Trump crumbled.

But in recent comments, Trump doubled down on his Birtherism. That doesn't seem to bother the Romney camp, however. Though Romney has said he differs with The Donald on the issue, he's still scheduled to stand with Trump at a glitzy Las Vegas fundraiser later this month.

Will questioned Romney's decision to appear at the event. "Donald Trump is redundant evidence that if your net worth is high enough, your IQ can be very low and you can still intrude into American politics," said Will. "Again, I don’t understand the benefit. What is Romney seeking?"
