Sen.-elect Elizabeth Warren will sit on the Senate Banking Committee, Majority Leader Harry Reid announced. The Huffington Post had reported on Warren's appointment earlier this month, but it had not yet been confirmed.

The perch that provide Warren with an ongoing platform for her fight to put ordinary Americans' interests ahead of those of the financial sector.

Warren, a former Harvard Law School professor and bankruptcy expert, emerged as a progressive hero during her successful campaign to oust Scott Brown from the Senate in Massachusetts.
