Minutes before the President took the stage to give his speech last Friday in Charlotte, Lean Forward met up with Cornell Belcher, a pollster for the Obama re-election campaign, to discuss the likelihood of conventions providing the traditional bump in the polls to presidential candidates. Belcher said he didn't expect much of a bounce for Mitt Romney, and forecast a small bounce for Obama.
A few days later, we have enough information to assess Belcher's prediction. Turns out it was maybe a little on the low side for Obama, but by and large pretty accurate: Tracking polls show a swing of between 3 and 5 points toward President Obama.
