Former President Bill Clinton had a private phone conversation with Donald Trump around the time that Trump was considering jumping into the 2016 presidential race, NBC News confirms.
Trump reached out to Clinton a few times, and Clinton returned his phone call in late May. But Clinton’s office maintains that the 2016 race was not discussed.

“While we don’t make it a practice to discuss the president’s private conversations, we can tell you that the presidential race was not discussed,” a Clinton aide told NBC News.
The call was first reported by The Washington Post.
Trump has shot to the top of Republican presidential polls since announcing his candidacy on June 16. On the campaign trail, Trump frequently calls Democratic presidential frontrunner Hillary Clinton, “the worst secretary of state of all time.”
