DES MOINES, Iowa – Bernie Sanders is still giving Hillary Clinton a pass on her emails.
The underdog candidate in a recent Wall Street Journal interview seemed to suggest he wanted to revisit the controversy over Clinton’s use of a private email server as secretary of state. But Sanders dismissed that notion Saturday night as “media stuff” during the second Democratic presidential broadcast on CBS News from here. Sanders dismissed the issue during the first Democratic debate when he said Americans were tired of hearing about the emails.
“I was sick and tired of Hillary Clinton’s emails. And I am still sick and tired of hearing about Hillary Clinton’s emails,” Sanders said to applause Saturday.
“I didn’t know I had so much power, but after I said that, we’re not hearing so much about Hillary Clinton’s email," Sanders said. He added that he was pleased that the media was no longer talking about the controversy, but challenged the press to discuss larger issues. “We got rid of Hillary Clinton’s emails – good. Let’s go to the big issues facing America,” he said.
