Taking a step back from the violence in Baltimore that broke out Monday in the wake of Freddie Gay's death, there are key factors that contextualize the city's current agitation. "We've got to understand the root cause of these problems," Rep. G.K. Butterfield, D-N.C., chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus told msnbc Tuesday.
"We have one out of four families, black families in America, who live in poverty and the rates are even higher in West Baltimore. One out of three African American children living in poverty."
