The red carpet is being dusted off, the speeches are being prepared and dozens of celebrities are debating what to wear as the 2013 NCLR ALMA Awards draws near. This year, the show promises to be bigger than ever before with a brand-new format as some of the biggest names in Latino Hollywood are honored for achievement in television, film, music and activism.

So who is expected to scoop up a trophy at this year’s awards? In a departure from previous years, the ALMA Awards will select honorees from across the arts, rather than selecting winners in specific categories like “Best Actress” or “Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy.”

And among the lucky recipients? This year’s honorees will include director Robert Rodriguez(recipient of the Anthony Quinn Award for Industry Excellence) and the cast of “Filly Brown.” Anew award – the “Outstanding Commitment to Cause and Community” award will given to rock star Carlos Santana and actress Rosario Dawson. There will also be a one-hour pre-show telecast, which will honor Wilmer Valderrama (“Outstanding Social Activism”) writer/producer Nancy De Los Santos Reza (“Outstanding Industry and Community Service Award”) and director Tony Plana (“Ricardo Montalban Award for Lifetime Achievement”).

The 2013 NCLR ALMA Awards airs on Friday, Sept. 27 at 10:00 PM ET/7:00 PM PST.
