South Carolina Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham continued to beat the war drums against the Obama administration over the 2012 attack on the U.S. mission in Benghazi, saying political motivations covered up a terrorist attack.

“The story of Benghazi is that after the attack, seven weeks before an election, there was an effort by some senior people to put a political spin on this," Graham said on Morning Joe. "Rather than tell the story that it was a terrorist attack from the get go because it was so close to the election.”

On Wednesday, the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee will hear testimony from State Department witnesses on the Benghazi attacks. Graham said on Monday the scandal would grow from these accounts: “The dam is about to break on Benghazi,” he said on Fox News.

Graham has insisted that there was a cover-up for months, and questioned why officials originally said the attack was a violent protest and not a terrorist attack. Other Republicans have alleged that the attack could have been alleviated by a speedy military effort; still others have slammed the State Department for withholding the assistance the embassy had requested before the attacks.

He added that the State Department's own investigation was unsuccessful, noting that the board never even interviewed Sec. of State Hillary Clinton.

Clinton did however testify on Benghazi before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in January.

“With all due respect, the fact is we had four dead Americans,” Clinton said in a heated exchange with Wisconsin Republican Sen. Ron Johnson in January. “Was it because of a protest or was it because of guys out for a walk last night who decided to kill some Americans? What difference at this point does it make? It is our job to figure out what happened and do everything we can to prevent it from ever happening again, Senator.”
