Lawmakers from both sides of the aisle joined President Obama for a congressional picnic on the White House Lawn yesterday. “State Fair” was the theme at the event with booths offering ice cream sundaes, kettle corn and even pie throwing. President Obama said he hoped the community spirit of the picnic would carry over in to the future. The President’s optimistic remarks come as the New NBC Wall Street Journal Poll shows 62 percent of respondents think the country is headed in the wrong direction, that is up from 50 percent in May. The poll also shows that 44 percent believe the United States is in store for another recession. The disappointing economic news continues to be a problem for President Obama. Only 41 percent say they approve of his handling of the economy and the President’s overall job approval rating now sits at 49 percent. That’s down 3 points from early May when Osama Bin Laden was killed.
