With the New Hampshire primary just over 6 weeks away, Newt Gingrich picked up a key endorsement in the state. In a front page editorial, the New Hampshire Union Leader puts its support behind the former House Speaker, citing his past accomplishments as evidence that he can lead the nation. In a sharp rebuke of Mitt Romney, the newspaper concedes that while Newt Gingrich may not be the perfect candidate, he’s willing to stand on principle. The editorial reads, “We don’t have to agree with them on every issue. We would rather back someone with whom we may sometimes disagree than one who tells us what he thinks we want to hear.”      Gingrich may have the support of New Hampshire’s most influential newspaper, but Mitt Romney still holds an overwhelming lead in the state. The latest WMUR/UNH poll shows the former Massachusetts governor topping the Republican field in New Hampshire with 42%  support. Gingrich is in a distant second with 15% .
