Director Steven Spielberg says his latest film "Lincoln" doesn't  strike any parallels on purpose with present day politics.

"That’s up to all of you to figure out what is the mirror that we’re holding up to today," he told Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski. "We were back in the 19th century telling the story, so we really kept it relevant to Lincoln’s time and Lincoln’s life."

The film features two-time Academy Award winner Daniel Day-Lewis as President Lincoln in his final months in office.

Time Magazine's latest issue features Day-Lewis as Lincoln on the cover bearing the headline: "What Would Lincoln Do?" Managing Editor Rick Stengel joined the conversation to say the issue considers Lincoln's leadership.

"In the midst of this tumultuous presidential campaign where people are feeling like: ‘What do these guys represent? What do they stand for? What are they talking about?’…What would Lincoln do? What are the values of leadership that he had 150 years ago that are still relevant today and why aren’t we seeing them with the folks that are running?" Stengel said.
