Joe Scarborough is standing by his criticism of the New York Times' coverage of Mitt Romney.
As reported in Politico:
"The New York Times can be as defensive as they want to," Scarborough told POLITICO today. "I love the New York Times, but with all due respect, they're sounding about as thin skinned as the politicians that they cover."Scarborough kicked off today's edition of Morning Joe by criticizing the paper for running a story about Romney's expansive home in La Jolla, San Diego, on the front page of the House & Garden section, suggesting that the paper prioritized negative coverage of Romney's wealth while not doing the same for Sen. John Kerry during his presidential bid in 2004.In response, a Times spokesperson provided POLITICO with four articles from 2004 about Kerry's finances, and said any suggestion it had not provided such coverage was "simply not true"...
But Scarborough believes that the four examples provided by the Times do not diminish his larger point, which is that the editors of the Times -- a "center-left" paper -- "sometimes give way too much play to a story that should be knocked down."
