Overnight and Under the Radar: While you were sleeping...

Hands down. The #1 question Morning Joe and Way Too Early staffers are asked outside of work: "How do you sleep?!" While the rest of the world is dozing off, our staff starts filtering into 30 Rock at midnight and works before dawn to deliver you your morning buzz at 5:30AM. When the show is done, we walk against the grain to go home and go to bed. Friends, family, and strangers alike always have a hard time wrapping their brains around our bizarro schedules, so we wanted to share some of our trade secrets to sleeping on the overnight shift.

It's hard to sleep when the sun is out, so MJ line producer Tim Carter swears by his beauty mask to shut out the rays. WTE Line Producer Jon Tower "puts on a helmet and runs into a wall as hard" as he can. WTE Video Producer Ashley Codianni takes three cat naps throughout the day, and speaking of cats, MJ Video Producer Maura Daly feeds her felines, London and Berlin, to lull her to sleep. I just have two words for you: blackout curtains.

No matter how we slept the day before, we're all wide awake when we go on air -- nothing like live TV to give you the shot of adrenaline you need to stay up.
