NY congressman to Rubio: You voted against our relief aid, 'forget' fundraising here

Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., slammed his party--and Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla.--for withholding aid after Hurricane Sandy devastated New York and New Jersey.

Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., slammed his party--and Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla.--for withholding aid after Hurricane Sandy devastated New York and New Jersey.

During the fiscal cliff showdown, Republican members of Congress refused to vote for the bill, delaying it for weeks. King said on Friday's Morning Joe that months later he is still furious at Rubio and others for delaying much-needed aid to his district.

"All we wanted to do was to be treated the same as we treated the victims in Mississippi and Alabama and Florida," King said. "By the way, guys like Marco Rubio in Florida--after all the money that your people have gotten in Florida over the years from every hurricane that came along and this guy has the nerve to vote against money for New York and then come up here and try to raise money? You can forget it."

Rubio voted against the bill in January and courted Wall Street donors just a month later. King added that the incident had permanently damaged his relationship with his party.

"My relationship with Congress will never be the same again. They made us wait 90 to 100 days to give the most basic human aid—absolutely disgraceful," King said. "All I know is that there were people who were close to dying in my district, and people didn’t give a damn. That’s something I'm not going to forget. We gave them money 10 days after [Hurricane] Katrina. You go back to all the disasters and the money was always there."
